Social value assessment is for companies that have recognised the potential for creating social value but are struggling to make sense of it all. Or, perhaps you already supply products and services to government, local authorities, housing associations, NHS, etc. and want to know what your social value impact is. It could be that when bidding for a contract you have already been asked what social value impact you are delivering or will deliver on the contract.

Regardless of the driver for requesting a social value assessment, we can guarantee that there will be social value impact your organisation is having, that you have not thought about. By capturing what you are already doing we can assess how you can build on it and improve your social value impact in the future.

Our easy 4 step approach:

  • Meet with the team and other stakeholders to review current social value activities and governance
  • Via a short duration training session, provide an overview and explanation of the implementation of the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012, and other relevant legislation and government policy as it relates to your specific industry and services. You will also learn the range of measurement and reporting options available to you.
  • Review the social value requirements demanded by your current customer base and internal teams to identify goal congruence
  • Provide gap analysis and written report with recommendations based on organisational size, service and objectives.

All organisations regardless of their size can provide social value through their activities. We recognise though, that some smaller organisations find it difficult to build into their day-to-day services. Even when they do, it can be challenging to capture, measure and report it appropriately and in a manner that adds value to their employees, customers and wider stakeholders and that is where our social value assessment can really help.  The nature of social value means there is no template or formula to work to and so we will work with you to provide a Social Value Framework that is suitable and proportionate for your organisation. By combining this process with some further activities, completion of this stage could lead to the Bronze Social Value Practice Award for “Awareness”.

Depending on how well developed your social value approach is, and the size and complexity of your organisation the social value assessment stage can take between 2-6 weeks, but it does include writing up the report and providing outline recommendations. For a small, owner-managed business with only a few employees, we can often complete the process in 2-3 weeks, and it is only the larger organisations who require longer.

Whatever stage of development you are, get in touch and we can help you to identify what you need to take the next step. Our recommendations will be based on sound social value principles and will equip you to make the right decision for your organisation.
